Who we are

Welcome to the Southwestern Michigan Tourist Council! We were founded in 1982 as a non-profit marketing organization to promote lodging and attractions in three counties forming the lower corner of the state. Travelers are drawn here to see natural attractions, such as dunes, miles of scenic Lake Michigan beach, rivers and parks with hiking trails and biking paths. Three major resort towns along the Lake offer charming shops, culture and entertainment.

Whether you seek solitude or a group learning experience, come visit us. Each season offers beauty...from spring blossoms across acres of orchards, sun warming sugar-sand beaches, a bountiful harvest of colors and produce in autumn to skiing through the still winter snow.

Three of us are here full-time to assist you with your travel plans.

  • Millicent Huminsky, Executive Director, is responsible for directing the organization, developing and executing administrative goals and objectives. She works with the Board of Directors, committees, staff, media and the public. Millicent also creates quarterly event calendars and writes enticing press releases describing the beauty of our seasons.
  • April Dornan, the friendly voice on the phone, helps our walk-in visitors with literature and ideas to make their stay the best it can be.
  • Victoria Dunlop assists groups of 10 or more, from family reunions to weddings, corporate meetings and motorcoach tours.

Several part-time seasonal people help on various projects at the Tourist Council and provide free samples of southwest Michigan fruits and vegetables in season, at the New Buffalo Welcome Center on weekends.
Jim Dunlop, our Webmaster, spends his evenings updating and developing our web site, as well as changing the visions of seasonal offerings.

Just look for our little cottage with a wrap-around porch. We're here waiting to meet you.
