At the end of a primitive driveway leading to the top of a wooded hill and tucked in among stately trees rests a sprawling seven-gabled late 1800's house once known as the Lybrook Homestead.
Comfortably restored, it features five guest rooms named in honor of the family. Each room has a private bath and central air. Some with a fireplace or jacuzzi or pedestal tub. One room is handicap accessible. All rooms are smoke free and pet free.
Experience a gentle step back in time as you enjoy the sitting room with its antique fireplace and piano.
Breakfast is served in the spacious formal dining room with its dimly-lit chandelier and view of the courtyard. Complimentary hot drinks and pastries available.
Year round comfort in a fresh clean environment. Quiet rural atmosphere with the flavor of country, even to the crowing of a rooster, encourages rest and relaxation.
Pleasant area for walking among gardens - benches for bird-watching.
Near Andrews University and Notre Dame, Lake Michigan beaches and dunes, nature centers with hiking trails and cross-country skiing, golf, fishing, eateries, antique shops and orchards.

All guest rooms overlook the Saint Joseph River with a panoramic view from nearly 50 feet above. The 70-year-old house has a distinctive charm and many amenities unknown for its day. Each room has a call system for service and the master suite has a deck that looks down at Riverview Park and the river. With 8-1/3 acres, there is plenty to do on the grounds, summer and winter. A private dock and pontoon boat offer the best fishing in the area and cruising up and down the river to Lake Michigan. Hear concerts in the park while docked, go swimming on Silver Beach, have a picnic aboard and view elegant waterfront homes. The Arts and Crafts show in July offers crafts from around the world, and the Venetian Festival in August with its spectacular parade of lighted decorated boats is a major midwest event. Visit historic Saint Joseph with its brick streets, many fine shops and restaurants and visit the surrounding farms where you can pick fresh blueberries, raspberries, peaches, apples and many farm grown vegetables. Antique shops abound. After your outdoor fun, enjoy one of our warm fireplaces, all down comforters, and restful views of the river and night sky. Family outings and holidays are reminiscent of "over the river and through the woods, to Grandmothers house we go." Riverbend Retreat has more acreage than any other bed and breakfast, hotel or motel in the area. Hence, it is quiet and peaceful with no one nearby to disturb the tranquility of the setting.

Located in Union Pier on a scenic bluff overlooking Lake Michigan, the recently built, 8,000-square-foot Georgian-style lake house contains eight guestrooms, all of them facing the inn's beautiful private beach through cozy screened-in verandas that are ideal for relaxing and watching the sunset. You won't find a nicer beach in all of Harbor Country, and it's all yours. A lovely trellised walkway just a few yards from our back door winds diagonally from the top of the bluff to a seaside deck area and then down to the beach itself. You bring the suntan lotion; we'll supply the beach chairs.
