LeAnn Rimes: A Plugged in Acoustic Evening
A plugged in acoustic evening with LeAnn Rimes performing music from her current album "Family"
Opening Date: October 3, 2010
Operating Hours: Sunday, October 3, 7:00 p.m.
Event Description: When a performer grows up in the spotlight, it's often hard for public perception to mature along with them. Some people still picture LeAnn Rimes as the pretty 13-year-old with the incredible voice who first burst on the national scene with the hit "Blue." In reality, LeAnn Rimes is so much more. As an artist, she's matured into a songwriter of considerable depth and as a vocalist; she's grown into her gift in an even more impressive way.

Her new album, "Family," marks the first time LeAnn has written or co-written every song, and the result is a collection that reflects where she is at this season in her life. "I'm just completely baring my insides," LeAnn confesses. "I think people feel like they've known me for so long. They've grown up with me and I've grown up with them. A lot of people believe what they read and what they see on the surface, but there's so much underneath for me as a human being, not as an artist, and that's where this is coming from. It's coming from real life.

Strauss & Strauss
Opening Date: October 24, 2010
Operating Hours: 3:30pm
Event Description: J. Strauss: Die Fledermaus Overture, Elgen a Magyar Polka, Ritter Pazman: Czardas Artist's Life Waltz and
R. Strauss: Till Eulenspiegel's Merry Pranks, Death and Transfiguration.

Johann Strauss and Richard Strauss share more than a last name: both wrote music deeply rooted in the distinct and immediately recognizable Viennese style. J. Strauss entertaining Die Fledermaus Overture, Magyar Polka, Czardas, and Artist's Life Waltz were all inspired by nationalistic folk dances. Light-hearted, even jocular, on the surface, these pieces are tinged with a bittersweet undercurrent.

More serious in tone and content, Richard Strauss's music represents another side of the Viennese tradition. Till Eulenspiegel's Merry Pranks and Death and Transfiguration are two of his best -known works, the first jocular and effervescent as it describes the adventure and pranks of a German peasant trickster, the second deeper and more powerful as it explores the somber subject of an artist's death.
Admission: Tickets for the Mainstage Series concerts are $36 for adults, $31 for seniors, and $8 for students. Subscriptions for the series are available as well as a Flex Pass, featuring four tickets to any of the Mendel Mainstage Series concerts.
