Now twenty, Ms. Kudo began studying piano at the age of four in Chicago. Able to speak fluent Japanese, Korean and English, she realized early that her music had the ability to touch people in ways words could not. The recipient of the Chopin Prize and the winner of the 2007 Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition, Kudo has received international recognition in several competitions. She is currently continuing her undergraduate studies at the Juilliard School of Music. The Lake Michigan Youth Orchestra is one of several educational programs of the Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra. The Youth Orchestra provides an orchestral experience for talented young musicians in southwest Michigan. This outstanding musical experience is open to students between the 4th grade and college senior. Robin Fountain will host a Pre-Concert Conversation beginning at 2:30pm in the Mendel Center's South Training Room. These Pre-Concert Conversations are free and open to all ticket holders. They provide an insight into the music to be performed, why Robin selected the music he did for the evening's program and sometimes a cameo appearance by the evening's guest artists. |

This exhibition is a series of dynamic photographs of area lighthouses that include Grand Haven, South Haven, Holland and our own North Pier Lighthouse in St. Joseph taken by photographer Gary Martin.
Stephen Moss shows that landscape has a supernatural component. When he paints the landscape, he essentially creates a pattern of colors and shapes on a flat surface.
Patrick McKearnan's tension sculptures include various types of wood and steel that combined provide the viewer with a sense of intrigue. |

| Additional Dates: |
May 23 - July 20, 2008 |
| Operating Hours: |
Monday-Saturday from 10-4
Sunday 1-4 |
| Event Description: |
For landscape artist Stephen Moss, painting landscapes is more than rendering beautiful Michiana scenes."Each painting encapsulates my interest in moving between three different realms the natural, the supernatural, and the artificial, or man-made,"Moss says."As a 21 st century human being, I am constantly engaging aspects of all three." What makes Moss' paintings especially unique is the painting technique he has developed and honed over his 20-year artistic career. Moss overlays multi-faceted geometric shapes onto each canvas as a means by which to render a landscape. From a distance the geometrics blend, creating an impressionistic painting. When approaching each painting, however, the landscape fractualizes, becoming semi-abstract when viewed up close. "Every generation or two produces an outstanding artist who specializes in local dune landscape. Stephen is that artist of this generation,"says Craig Smith, owner of Craig Smith Gallery where Moss exhibits his work, and guest curator for this exhibit at the Krasl Art Center. |
