Last Saturday Film Series

The Maud Preston Palenske Memorial Library is collaborating with The Box Factory for the Arts to provide The Last Saturday Film Series.   Films will be shown at The Box Factory for the Arts on the last Saturday of each month at 7:30pm.    The films shown are all through The Film Movement,  which provides award winning independent and foreign films.    Visit our website for a listing of dates and upcoming titles. 

Sarett Nature Center will host an evening of FUNdraising for adults.  Teams will be tested on their knowledge of various topics (not just nature!).  First place team receives $200.  Teams of 10 can register for $100; individuals can register for $10 each.  Bring snacks and munchies.  A cash bar will be available for beverages.

Pizza Wars Pre-Show Party- 6 P.M. ($10 Adults, $7 Children 3-12)

Organized by the National Audubon Society and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, the Great Backyard Bird Count is an annual event to engage people from across America in citizen-science. By counting the birds you see and submitting the data, scientists can have a real-time picture of bird populations and habitats. Stop by the Nature Center to learn how to identify our common winter birds (1:00 pm) and how to feed them (3:00 pm). In between, help tally the birds at Fernwood's feeders.

Dueling Pianos is a High Energy, All Request, Sing Along, Clap Along, Rock N Roll, Comedy Piano show where the audience is just as much a part of the show as the entertainers. A great place to bring a party, as the duo will give special shout-outs to those celebrating an occasion. Groups of 2 to 200 are guaranteed to have a great time when these guys start dueling it out! The Wind Symphony presents a crowd favorite - their annual Pops Concert.

From the flowers of the gardens to the peace of the nature trails and the spirit of the wildlife that call Fernwood home, see the beaty of Fernwood as captured through the artistic eyes of area photographers. Announcement of contest winners is Saturday, February 11, at 2:00 pm.

Cross country ski or walk on snowshoes by moonlight on Sarett Nature Center's lighted trails.  The trails will be lit from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.  Snowshoe and ski equipment rentals will be available.

A celebration of everything winter in Michigan! Throughout downtown South Haven there will be ice carving, ice-skating, free chili to warm you up, & dancing later at the local pubs! Be sure to vote on your favorite chili!

This year we are presenting the best short films from the world-renowned New York International Children’s Film Festival (NYICFF). This year we will be presenting a host of outstanding films for the whole family, many for the very young and some appropriate for middle and high school students. They include award winning films that have been screened all over the globe—What’s on Your Plate, a documentary about kids and food politics; Louder Than a Bomb, a film chronicling a kids’ poetry slam in Chicago; One Lucky Elephant, a 10,000 pound love story about a circus elephant’s retirement; the 1953 Cannes Film Festival winner, White Mane; Eleanor’s Secret, a charming animated film about the magic of learning to read; and selections from Leonard Bernstein’s Young People’s Concerts recorded nearly fifty years ago.  Parents will be given guidance to content and age appropriateness.
