This year is coming to a fast close but there’s still time to plan a Southwest Michigan New Year’s Getaway. Here’s how to celebrate the start of 2017 your way!

newyearRomantic Beginnings
Hoping to spend just-the-two-of-you time together? The Boulevard Inn & Bistro, 521 Lake Blvd., is one of the most romantic settings in St. Joseph. Located across from the glimmering Lake Bluff Park, you’re a short walk to downtown wineries, brew pubs, restaurants and shops. Equally enticing is the 5-minute drive to the shores of Lake Michigan, with its picturesque views of lighthouses, wintry waves and sunsets.

Dec. 30 to Jan. 2 this all-suite inn is offering two New Year’s Packages. Both include overnight accommodations for two in a spacious suite, several with Jacuzzis and lake views, and all with late checkout. You’ll receive a $50 dinner credit at the Inn’s acclaimed Bistro (its chefs have mastered French-style cooking with a flair for being deliciously adventurous with their menu selections). They’ll deliver a chilled bottle of champagne and keepsake flutes to your room. You’ll wake up to a breakfast buffet along with a choice of two Mimosas or Bloody Marys.
• Package One helps you create a romantic private party with Charcuterie served on a keepsake board, a box of six, house-made French macarons and six chocolate-covered strawberries.
• Package Two steps up your celebration with a bountiful fresh fruit and cheese basket and a box of Kilwins’ premium chocolates.

You can make reservations at 269-983-6600. There’s an enticing incentive to stay more than one night.

Put Party Hats on Your Kids
Celebrating the New Year is for the under-21 crowd, too. One of the most festive family spots below the bluff in St. Joseph is the Silver Beach Carousel, 333 Broad St. This truly magnificent machine will spin smiles from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Dec. 31. Bring the kids and choose your favorite figure to ride from 48 hand-carved and painted figures and two chariots (one wheelchair accessible).

You’ll find many other family activities in this happy place, most of them free. Play board games. Have hula hoop competitions. Color. Explore the hands-on Silver Beach Amusement Park memorabilia. Or pay a few cents to set the holiday decorated electric train display in motion.

Create Your Own Family Revelry
Dec. 30-Jan. 2 is a good time to extend your year-end fun with grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins by adding an overnight stay at one of the local lodgings – choosing one with a pool makes it even better!

Wishing you a happy 2017!
