1101 Broad Street
St. Joseph, Michigan 49085
Contact Name: The Box Factory for the Arts

Event Date:07/19/2018

Event Description:LU OVER THE WALL A Film by Masaaki Yuasa Japan, 2017, 107 min in English Recommended for ages 8 + https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8eN5QnoNhx0 From visionary anime auteur Masaaki Yuasa, who took over the NY festival this year with two other selections – the new rom-com Night is Short, Walk on Girl and outré classic Mind Game – comes a hallucinogenic-but-family-friendly take on the classic fairy tale of the little mermaid who falls in love with mankind, and then comes ashore to join a dysfunctional middle school rock band and propel them to fame. New kid Kai is talented but adrift, spending his days sulking and isolated in a small fishing village after his family moves from Tokyo. When he demonstrates a proficiency at making music on his synthesizer, his classmates invite him to join their nascent garage band, but their practice sessions soon bring an unexpected guest: Lu, a young mermaid whose fins turn to feet when she hears the beats, and whose singing causes humans to compulsively dance – whether they want to or not. Winner of the grand prize at Annecy, Lu Over the Wall is a toe-tapping, feel-good demonstration of Yuasa’s genre-mixing mastery that will leave you humming long after you leave the theater.

Johnny Mathis

Four Winds Casino

New Buffalo, MI 49117
Contact Name: Four Winds Casino
8664946371

Event Date:07/20/2018

Event Description:The fourth of seven children, John Royce Mathis was born on September 30, 1935 in Gilmer, Texas. As a small boy he learned an appreciation of music from his father Clem who taught him his first song, “My Blue Heaven”. He sang in the church choir, school functions, community events, for visitors in their home as well as amateur shows in the San Francisco area. In 1954, Johnny enrolled at San Francisco State College (now called San Francisco State University). While there, Johnny set a high jump record of 6’-5 1/2”. Just as when he was in high school, Johnny’s name was frequently mentioned in the sports sections of the Northern California newspapers. While there, a fellow student brought Johnny in for a Sunday afternoon jam session at a local nightclub. It was at the Black Hawk that Helen Noga, co-owner of the club, first heard him sing. She decided that she wanted to manage his career. In early September of 1955, Johnny landed a job singing weekends at Ann Dee’s 440 Club. He continued his studies at San Francisco State and gained additional fame as a high jumper. In early 1956, Johnny was asked to attend the trials for the 1956 Olympic teams that would travel to Melbourne, Australia that summer. At the same time, Columbia Records requested that Johnny come to New York to start arrangements for his first recording session. Clem helped his son decide that his future and best interests were with the recording company. So, Johnny gave up his chance to become a member of the USA Olympic Team. He went to New York to record his first album in March of 1956.

Event Description:2018 WYCE Jammie award winner for "Album of the Year", "Song of the Year", and "Best Contemporary Folk Album": May Erlewine brings her trio into The Livery for a very special performance on Friday, August 3rd! May's trio will include: Julian Allen and Max Lockwood! Some people might call May Erlewine “Michigan’s Songbird”, but her songs have traveled far beyond her home state. One of the most prolific and passionate songwriters of her generation, May’s music has touched the hearts of people all over the world. Her words have held solace for weary hearts, offered a light in the darkness and held a lot of space for the pain and joy of being alive in these times. When she starts to sing, there’s no way around it. Welcome to the moment, everyone. Raised in a family rich with art and music, May began writing songs and playing them for the people at a very young age. Her journeys have taken her all over the world, from street corners to renowned stages, May has performed for all walks of life. In her travels Erlewine came to know the land and the pulse of the people. Her songs show a very real connection and concern with everyday folk. May pulls from a wide variety of sounds and influences to create her unique musical landscape. You’ll hear traditional folk roots, old time country swing, soul and rock and roll but mostly she’s inspired by the hearts of the people and the one in her chest. This music is about feeling and it’s about telling life’s stories.

The FSJ Project offers a variety of opportunities for the public to get involved as a means of sharing knowledge about local archaeological investigations and the history of the City of Niles, MI. Fort St. Joseph, founded in 1691, was an important French mission, trading post, and military garrison until it was abandoned in 1781. 1101 Broad Street

Contact Name: The Box Factory for the Arts

Event Date:08/16/2018

Event Description:LIYANA Qatar, Swaziland, USA | 77 min. 2017 Recommended ages: 10 + | English & SiSwati, w/ English subtitles https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEqPyQ7UKUY A Swazi girl embarks on a dangerous quest to rescue her young twin brothers. This animated African tale is born in the imaginations of five orphaned children in Swaziland who collaborate to tell a story of perseverance drawn from their darkest memories and brightest dreams. Their fictional character’s journey is interwoven with poetic and observational documentary scenes to create a genre-defying celebration of collective storytelling. An ode to the power of storytelling and the strength of the human spirit, Liyana is an uplifting, genre-defying film not to be missed. Note: while sensitively handled, film deals with challenging family histories and lingering impact of HIV/AIDS epidemic in Africa. Director’s Statement – LIYANA is a film that gives our young storytellers the stage. We hope the audience will be enchanted by the children’s imaginations in the same way that we are. We believe this film will play a role in deconstructing stereotypes and challenging the prevalent, simplistic narrative of African orphans. LIYANA pays tribute to my childhood in the Kingdom of Swaziland. And at its heart, the film is a meditation on the transformative power of storytelling – an ode to the creative spirit.

Event Description:Theresa Caputo is from TLC’s hit show, Long Island Medium, which follows Theresa’s life as a typical Long Island wife and mom with one very big difference…she can communicate with the dead. Since she cannot “turn off” this gift, messages from departed loved ones can come through at any time, which leads to spontaneous readings with those she encounters. During her appearance at Four Winds New Buffalo, Theresa will share personal stories about her life and explain how her gift works. She will deliver healing messages to audience members and give people comfort knowing their loved ones who passed are still with them, just in a different way. “The Experience” brings Theresa face-to-face with her fans, as she lets the spirit guide her through the audience. A video display ensures everyone in the venue has an up-close-hands-on experience regardless of seat location. “The experience isn’t about believing in mediums. It’s about witnessing something life-changing,” Theresa says. “It’s like Long Island Medium live, witnessing first-hand spirit communication.”

In 1998 Rundgren debuted his new PatroNet technology which for the first time allowed fans of a musical artist to subscribe directly to the artist’s musical output via the Internet, a technology that continues widespread use today.

The Blue Water Ramblers’ repertoire comes right out of our Michigan life experiences and the history of the Great Lakes region. It includes lake shanties, lumberman ballads, union rallying cries, farmers’ paeans, Michigan humor, love songs, gospel music and children’s ditties. Everyone agrees that these combine into a versatile repertoire to the delight and entertainment of their audiences. “I think my hero, Woody Guthrie, would approve,” opined Banjo-Jim. “We’re singing the people’s songs about the people’s lives and they can join right in and sing along.”

Dablon Vineyards Hosts Live Music by Marty Miles

Dablon Vineyards and Winery
111 W. Shawnee Rd
Baroda, MI 49101
Contact Name: Dablon Vineyards and Winery
2694222846

Event Date:11/11/2018

Event Description:With a serious nod to the 60’s folk/rock revolution and sensitivity to current trends, the music of Indiana artist Marty Miles is simultaneously divergent and classic. Guided by his smooth vocals and lyric songwriting, listeners can expect a musical journey through the human condition – the question of disenchantment, the crossroads of doubt, a point of faith, a moment of whimsy, a tenuous hope.   Marty Miles is much more than your basic singer, guitarist, and songwriter type. A consummate entertainer - a modern troubadour in the purest sense – he pulls you in. It’s not uncommon for the audience to become a part of the show. And, whether he’s performing solo, with his acoustic trio or full electric band, expect to hear music from his most recent CD, Folk/Rock Adventures (available on iTunes & CD Baby) and his previous albums, seamlessly woven with smart covers of likely and unlikely suspects.

At the center of every circus rests a 42ft ring full of thrills, laughs, and excitement. 42FT – A MENAGERIE OF MECHANICAL MARVELS dares us to leap into the circus ring and experience the timelessness of this evolving art form. The show’s unique mechanical interpretation of the traditional, and its story full of the lore of the historic one-ring circus, create a welcoming place, like a big top, where we can be amazed. The action in 42FT is full of theatricality and a modern sensibility, showcasing a galloping mechanical metal horse and a rotating tent frame for strongmen, acrobats, and aerialists.
